Clutter happens to even the most tidy of homes. Mail piles up, the unread magazines stack up beside the favorite chair. Add to that, odds and ends are forgotten on any available counter or table.
Look around the abode and figure out what to do to claim back clear space. The following simple daily rituals will eliminate some unwanted clutter:
- Mail:
- Designate an area for mail with a tray on a side table.
- Place a shredder or recycling can in the area (shred anything with an address or name on it).
- Sort newly arrived mail.
- Immediately shred/recycle the junk mail.
- Open all envelopes and classify – keep, shred or recycle.
- Deal with everything in the mail tray by week's end (Friday).
- Magazines:
- Any magazine older than a month is old news - recycle!
- Every week after the initial sorting, review and recycle any new periodicals – this should take minutes to complete.
- Odds and Ends:
- Every household gets rushed. Objects are dropped and forgotten.
- Everyone has an obligation to pick up and store objects that do not belong in the shared areas daily.
